Complex body posture evaluation programme
Is your posture bad, are you hunched over most of the time?
Does your back and neck hurt, do you experience pain in your hips, feet and soles? Have you been told that it is all connected to your body posture? Would you like to know what to do about it, where to start and who can help you?
The solution is an evaluation that is unique in Hungary and analyses body posture in its complex connections.
Our body posture and how we move develop the way we perceive it because of a plethora of factors. You can hear a lot about hereditary reasons, lack of exercise, bad habits, obesity, accidents or surgical scars influencing our posture. You hear less about other factors influencing body posture like our eyesight, vestibular system, the soles of our feet and even our teeth.
These days these areas are treated completely separately, we see different specialists when we have problems with these without even suspecting that there might be a connection between them. But the basic anatomical and physiological connections support the view that the functioning of the muscles in our body and thus our body posture and movement are determined by all of these together. The loss or lack of a tooth, a change in our teeth can affect body posture the same way as the weakening of eye muscles or a change in the vestibular system. Therefore it is important to examine these areas together.
Proprioception is the sense that helps to perceive the position and movement of the body in space. It results from the coordinated operation of the internal mechanisms of the body and allows us to be aware of the position and movement of parts of our body without consciously observing it. Our body uses our nervous system as a way to communicate, when our feet move, a signal comes through the nervous system and “tells” our brain what is happening. On the other hand, if our brain tells our legs to move, the signal is in the opposite direction. These signals go back and forth throughout the day.
That is, proprioception is a constant feedback loop in the nervous system. When proprioception works well, the individual’s body position is automatically adjusted and this helps in all areas of the day, e.g. avoiding objects in the room or not falling out of the chair. Proprioception enables the dexterous manual manipulation of objects such as pencils, buttons, spoons and combs, or picking up a glass of water. The proprioceptive system has another role – it helps modulate and calm our stimulation levels so we can focus. In our proprioceptive system, there are receptors in our muscles and joints. These receptors or sensors are activated when they are compressed or stretched during movement.
HUMUNCULUS is a symbolic representation of the weight of different body-sensing signals in the brain in solving the information coming from the outside world. It is clear how important touch, sight, hearing (and the balancing organ) are. At the same time, it is surprising that the lips, tongue, teeth and the oral cavity are also very important input signals. In addition to all of this, the sensory nerve endings in the body’s joints give signals and all of this is evaluated simultaneously by the cerebral cortex, based on which it determines the location of the body in space and the movement and coordination of the body.
Based on the image and the HUMUNCULUS concept, it is easier to understand how complex posture is and how much more complete a picture of it is if we also examine these factors in the posture survey.
The good news is that this type of complex evaluation, which has been used in Italy and other countries for a long time, is now available in Hungary to treat professional athletes and ordinary people, to improve their posture and sports performance. During the survey, in the analysis of the body image, we examine the connections between vision, balance organ, bite, sole and prepare a summary in which we make suggestions for the development of the above areas, if necessary.
Most of the information is remeasured, i.e. checked in other ways, before the final diagnosis is made. The evaluation, analysis and presentation of the diagnosis are also carried out by a physiotherapist. The survey takes 60-90 minutes. The survey is carried out in swimwear, sportswear or underwear, it is recommended to wear comfortable clothing.
